Top Five Rainy Day Adventures
Once you’ve had your fill of tea and TV on these chilly, overcast days, toss the blanket aside and get out to experience something new!
Brighten your week with a few hours on a trail, at the waterfront or sampling new foods and drinks around the Greater Olympia area.
Grab a pair of gloves and head out for activities you didn’t get time to do this summer.
Find Thrills In The Chills
When it comes to the Upper Left, you'll find next to zero umbrellas and lots of folks hitting the trails on rainy days, bundled up in raingear. We love it! But we realize not everyone likes to climb Mt. Rainier in January. So if you're here during our chillier, wetter months, let us take away the indecision and pressure of making plans and give you an easy option to enjoy ALL our region has to offer.
Try a New Trail
Dress for the weather and go hiking. You’ll stay above the mud on boardwalks and paved trails at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge, McLane Creek Nature Trail and Chehalis Western Trail.

Go Ahead, Get Muddy
Puddle jumping isn’t just for kids. Pack waterproof boots and visit Tolmie State Park to wander the shoreline. You also might see wildlife and changing skies that are different than a summertime visit.

Warm-Up Mid-Adventure
Make sure your escape includes a stop for a hot beverage. Delicious options include the extensive drink menu at Burial Grounds Coffee Collective in downtown Olympia (carry out only for now) and Olympic Crest Coffee Roasters in Lacey, also serving breakfast and lunch. Shop for Northwest-inspired clothing and gifts when you get coffee at Ember Goods in Olympia. Want to learn more about what’s in your mug? Sign up for a weekly cupping class at Olympia Coffee Roasting Co.
Play Indoors
When the weather calls for indoor adventure, local attractions are ready to welcome you! Release pent-up energy at DEFY Olympia, where you can jump on 60+ trampolines. Pretend you’re on a beach vacation with a trip to the Great Wolf Lodge water park. Return to the big-screen movie experience at the Yelm Cinemas. Reserve your recliner online or place a takeout order for their famous popcorn to enjoy at home!

Take Your Tastebuds To New Places
Try new foods and beverages from local kitchens. Beer cheese soup and the pimento-filled Juicy Lucy burger are on the menu at Talking Cedar restaurant. Visit with the vintners and try new wines at Medicine Creek Winery or Scatter Creek Winery.
