This library-sponsored event is occurring off-site at 206 5th Ave SE, Olympia WA 98501 (Capitol Theater).
Free tickets can be picked up at the Olympia and West Olympia library starting October 12. You can also show your library card at the box office, but tickets are preferred.
To kick off the library’s Reels & Restorations series, we’re going with the new restoration (and slightly new version) of one of the greatest thrillers of all time: Michael Mann’s Manhunter! True Crime (and serial killer tales in general) remains one of the most checked-out genres at the library, and one can argue its ongoing mass popularity began with Manhunter and Thomas Harris’s novel Red Dragon, on which it is based. Join us for the birth of Hannibal Lecter, the birth of true crime/serial killer fiction for the mainstream, and one harrowingly brilliant movie – on the big screen!!
Reels & Restorations is a series of classic or underseen movies presented on 35mm film or in new restorations.
The film features a special recorded introduction from Brandon Streussnig. Brandon Streussnig is a freelance film journalist based in NYC with bylines in GQ, Men's Health, Letterboxd Journal, Vulture, Fangoria and more.
