Sea cucumbers are often a forgotten species in the saltwater of Washington state. This talk will cover the biological and cultural significance of the Giant Red Sea Cucumber (Parastichopus californicus).
Presenter bio: Andy Suhrbier is a long time senior biologist of the Pacific Shellfish Institute, located in Olympia Washington. He studies many things shellfish including geoduck, oysters, clams, mussles and water quality. His interest in sea cucumbers arose by their decline in population observed by tribal and state biologists and harvesters. He is the co-editor of the recent book, the World of Sea Cucumbers.
