Class Description: Old-Time Music has a rich tradition of jamming, where people of all ages and skill levels will play music together. Ideally, this is a low-stress environment where everyone can enjoy themselves and the music, but for newcomers or those who are maybe a little more shy about Old-Time, it can be an intimidating scene to break into.
In this four-week-long class, local musician Maggie Neatherlin will teach you how to start tunes, how to pick up tunes by ear, how to anticipate chord movement, and more, so you have everything you need in your musical toolbox to take part in this immersive tradition as old as the music itself. While this course is open to those of all skill levels, Maggie recommends that you come into the course knowing a handful of Old-Time tunes already, since while she will provide resources for learning common Old-Time jam tunes outside of the class, she does not plan on teaching tunes within the workshop. Instead, she will be focusing on building the skills and self-confidence needed to make your jamming experience enjoyable.
